ALCUNE DELLE NOTIZIE CHE RIPORTERO’ DI SEGUITO SONO ESTRATTE DAL LIBRO “ LA SCHERMA SALENTINA … A MEMORIA D’UOMO. Dalla pazziata alla danza – scherma” di Davide Monaco; unico libro riconosciuto dagli unici custodi e maestri di quest’arte.
Nella penisola salentina, accanto al fenomeno del tarantismo ormai del tutto scomparso, continua a vivere un particolare tipo di danza: la scherma.
Pratica esclusivamente virile, che si fonda su tale confronto, continua a attuarsi anno dopo anno, nella notte di San Rocco, a cavallo tra il quindici e il sedici agosto, a Torrepaduli, frazione di Ruffano (provincia di Lecce). Nei combattimenti salentini, alle origini, si utilizzava un particolare tipo di coltello, di derivazione tarantina, adatto anche all’addestramento, in quanto la lama era avvolta da una molla di repulsione che faceva in modo che l’arma non become lethal.
