Arandel - In D -
2010 Infiniti Music . The enigmatic musician (probably French) that is hidden under the name of Arandel is author of a syncretic beauty. This record has won the hearts of even an "old bluesman like me because it is varied and unpredictable, because it is electronic with a human face. Already the use of voices in # 1, while we are hypnotized by the rhythm of the epic drum machine, makes memorable start of the disk. With # 5 you are sucked into a black hole of ancestral and noisy synthetic choirs. # 6 is the most "melodic" of the disk (read lack of pace and batteries) with beautiful items (mostly female) that intertwine to form a canvas for sound rite apotropaic. The beginning of # 7 is entrusted only to the melancholy strings that introduce a spatial rhythm dance, enhanced by the activation of keyboards, soiled by warm hints of accordion and enhanced by discreet return of stringed instruments. The entire disc is still full of surprises and elusive sound different. Like when in # 9 can live post-rock rhythms and temptations free-jazz, while the next # 10 everything calms down a mantra sound, where a carpet embroidered with sweet notes of piano and sitar is disturbed by fluctuations in electronic and ambient noise. In short, it's easy to be seduced by minimalist charm of this disc, since the title is a heartfelt tribute to Terry Riley a composer who, with his In C, has traced the foundations of a musical aesthetic is still present and full of inspirational ideas. m Leaf - A Chorus Of Storytellers - Sub Pop 2010 . To be honest, even this great record of Album Leaf runs for a long time in my player (it was released in February this year). But an album is so autumnal, so steeped in twilight sweet, as to deserve such beauty to close in my emotional considerations. The creature Music Jimmy LaValle after the Icelandic experience, has definitely taken the path of a narrative and cinematic style music, drawing soundscapes of enchanting charm, mixing with wise restraint electronic, instrumental music, reminiscent of post-rock song form. And the novelty of this new effort to LaValle is represented by the presence of four songs sung by her plaintive and evocative voice (the solar There Is A Wind , melodica Falling From The Sun, the brilliant We Are and canterburiana Almost There ). Our time is accompanied also by a large band of musicians, including examples are bassist Luis Hermosillo (his traveling companion in the old post-rock adventure Tristeza), the excellent Tim Reece on drums, the inventive multi-instrumentalist Matt Resovich and Drew Andrews guitars . His connection with the ethereal sounds from the 'Iceland is evidenced by the presence (in the mixing stage) of Jón Birgisson of Sigur Rós and other musicians from the cold island that enrich the sound of the album with strings and horns . And so the vein of LaValle orchestale can be shown in all its glory in consuming and Summer Fog Until The Last , who can remember the suggestions of the best music Sigur Rós. Another gem is framed by sound Stand Still, featuring the excellent work of percussive Reece that livens up a sunny melody. Once upon a time the post-rock ... Rating: 28.5 / 30
