Anna Calvi, Anna Calvi (Domino, 2011) The atmosphere created is a movie set. Seem to see a room from the Baroque tapestry, stand in the shadows that fall soft silk dresses minutes on the sides, bright red lips and cigarette smoke. Stories of passionate love, mysterious dark and take shape. There is a constant sense of imminent danger, song after song, like an unconscious fear of not being able to control the impulses are stronger than a love that is also death. The sexual tension meanders throughout the album peaks exploding into glorious drama like No Words comes like a punch after the massive introduction of Riders To The Sea The peak intensity is reached with The Devil , dark-toned song that recalls the atmosphere of the most distressing Nick Cave and PJ Harvey's best. There are also more direct songs like Black Out (molto bello il live che trovate seguendo il link) e I’ll Be Your Man .
E’ vero che a tratti forse imita troppo l’insuperabile PJ Harvey, ma sempre in modo originale e poi, se questo is the result I wish they did many other young singers.
Recommended for those who would like to know what a "love ripping your hair." I guess me just like Anna.
